Posted by Amplifon Hearing Health Care on May 10, 2017 10:26:00 AM

It's May and that means it's Better Hearing and Speech Month. Better Hearing and Speech Month raises awareness about hearing and speech disorders. It encourages all of us to consider hearing and communication issues.

In that spirit, here are three things that you can do to inspire action with hearing loss issues.

  1. Get informed

Did you know that about 36 million Americans have some form of hearing loss? That's one in nine Americans. Hearing loss is common and affects all genders, races and ages.

Hearing loss often happens so gradually that many people don't notice. If you find yourself asking friends to repeat phrases or you like the TV or radio louder than others, you might be experiencing hearing loss. Find out by taking our quick hearing quiz.

  1. Get the word out

Communication is key to empowerment. You can normalize hearing issues and reduce perceived stigmas by talking or posting about hearing loss and hearing aids. Share your story and it might inspire others. The ASHA offers a variety of free resources social media, as well as posters, flyers and more for Better Hearing & Speech Month.

Do you know someone experiencing hearing loss? Help them take the first step. The influence of a family member or close friend might motivate that person to seek treatment. Our previous post offers six tips for talking to loved ones about their hearing loss.

  1. Get tested

Even if you don't notice any hearing changes, a hearing test by a licensed professional is a good idea. It's a great health check and helps establish a baseline as part of your overall health profile.

If you or a loved one is experiencing hearing loss, you can do something about it. Schedule a screening today with a provider near you.

We hope that together we can continue to create awareness and action that inspires others for Better Hearing and Speech Month and beyond.
